From CNN Politics : CNN has exclusively learned that Rep. Michele Bachmann will form a presidential exploratory committee. The Minnesota Republican plans to file papers for the committee in early June, with an announcement likely around that same time. But a source close to the congresswoman said that Bachmann could form the exploratory committee even earlier than June so that she could participate in early Republican presidential debates. “She’s been telling everyone early summer,” the source told CNN regarding Bachmann’s planned June filing and announcement. But the source said that nothing is static. “If you [debate sponsors] come to us and say, ‘To be in our debates, you have to have an exploratory committee,’ then we’ll say, ‘Okay, fine…I’ll go file the forms.’” Three GOP presidential primary debates are planned before and during early June: The first one on May 2 at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California and another on May 5 in South Carolina. CNN plans a GOP presidential primary debate in New Hampshire in early June. Meanwhile, CNN has also learned that Iowa Republican state Sen. Kent Sorenson has been hired to be Bachmann’s political director for the state – and that Bachmann aides hope to have a complete team together for Iowa by this weekend. Read the whole thing here .

Indiana resident Scott Womack understands the effects of Obamacare on small-business better than most. As the owner of 12 IHOP restaurants in Indiana and Ohio, Womack employs nearly 1,000 full- and part-time employees and he already offers health insurance to his management staff. The Heritage Foundation recently interviewed Womack for the latest installment of our “Impact of Obamacare” series and found what he had to say further evidence that the law won’t fix the problems it’s supposed to solve—but, instead, will create new ones. Take just one example. The new health care law will require him to provide insurance to all full-time employees beginning in 2014. Womack would like to be able to do that—but he simply doesn’t know how he’ll be able to generate the revenue. He estimates the cost of the law to his company to be 50 percent greater than his company’s earnings—in other words, beyond his ability to pay. That means Womack will have to make other changes to compensate for his increased costs—changes that might affect the number and quality of jobs he’s able to offer. “If the health care reform law is not repealed or if the employer mandate doesn’t go away, we’re going to have to take drastic action to trim employees’ hours back, to manage those numbers down, trim services,” Womack explains. “We’ll have to take a look at cutting a lot of things that we pay for now or that we do to make room for this.” That’s why—on the anniversary of Obamacare—Womack’s keeping his fingers crossed that the law will ultimately be repealed. He’s not alone. A year later, 53 percent of likely voters still favor repeal, according to a March 21 poll by Rasmussen Reports.

In the wake of changes to government employee unions’ power in Wisconsin and elsewhere, The Communist Party USA is working in conjunction with national labor unions and other left wing political groups to organize protests in Madison, Wisconsin and across the nation on April 4th. Scott Marshall, Vice Chair of The Communist Party USA said his organization is working with the likes of MoveOn.org, the SEIU, the AFL-CIO and others to make April 4th, the anniversary of the assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., a national day of action. “Support is beginning to grow,” said Marshall in an online meeting earlier this month. “A bunch of organizations already are hyping the idea of massive demonstrations on April 4th.” The Community Party in particular has benefited from the recent debate over Wisconsin government employee unions’ power to collectively bargain, using the opportunity to build their ranks. “In this struggle, the question of building the Left and building the Party has to come to the fore,” Marshall said. “Recruiting has picked up, more people are joining the Party and the broader left is getting bigger.” The Communist Party USA leader said his members cannot just participate alongside other organizations, however. They must continue to join and help lead them. ‘We have to totally be imbedded in this movement and in these activities,” Marshall said. “Every comrade has a part to play.” During the recent demonstrations in Madison, several protesters invoked images of Dr King, who was shot in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968, while in the city to meet and march in support of striking African American sanitation workers. MacIver News Service’s Bill Osmulski reports from Madison, Wisconsin:

On Monday March 21, Supreme Court Justice David Prosser and challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg met at a debate at the Marquette University Law School. The two candidates took questions from former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Janine Geske, Patrick Marley of the the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, J.R. Ross of Wispolitics.com, and Mike Gousha of WISN. The debate covered a broad range of topics from the recent rancor that seems to divide the court, the Impartial Justice Act, former cases, the Gableman case, and the current issues revolving around the Budget Repair Bill debate. Below are a few important segments from the debate that prove quite revealing about Supreme Court candidate JoAnne Kloppenburg’s adequacy for the high court. In this segment, Justice David Prosser notes that on JoAnne Kloppenburg’s campaign Facebook page, she has allowed rhetoric that links her election to overturning the Budget Repair Bill. In addition, Justice Prosser notes that there have been personal attacks made against him on the page as well as Governor Walker. The site has also been a rallying point for information regarding recall petitions and anti-Walker protests. Kloppenburg does not disavow these posts on her page but goes on to say that there is “nothing untrue” about these posts. Media Trackers first brought Kloppenburg’s Facebook page to light in a March 7 article that details many of these posts. In this next segment, Justice Prosser is asked about “taking the lead” in declaring the raid on the Patient’s Compensation Fund to be unconstitutional. Prosser explains how the actions taken by the legislature on behalf of Governor Jim Doyle’s attempt to balance the budget was “not right and a total violation of the law.” When Kloppenburg is given a chance to respond, she explains how she believes it to be “inappropriate that Justice Prosser would use that Patient Compensation Fund decision as an advertisement to seek political support.” But this is a part of Justice Prosser’s record as a justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. It is a decision that he authored. Isn’t this exactly the type of thing people ought to be evaluating when deciding whether to return Justice Prosser to the bench? In this clip, the candidates are asked about whether state Supreme Court justices ought to be appointed or elected. Kloppenburg goes first and seems to lean towards a system of appointment. In so doing, she explains her belief that Congress ought to “lead the way” in reducing issue ads despite being upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court as First Amendment rights. Justice Prosser calls her out on this saying “Congress has no business tampering with judicial elections in Wisconsin.” In this final clip, JoAnne Kloppenburg is asked if there is a U.S. Supreme Court Justice that she admires. She explains that she has “followed” Justice John Paul Stevens, particularly on how his position on the death penalty has evolved. Kloppenburg goes on to explain that “you can’t set your ideas in concrete.” What is troubling is that her ideas are not going to be rooted in the Constitution or the rule of law but in seemingly nothing. Is this really the “impartiality” she is selling to the people of Wisconsin? Justice David Prosser and Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg will be on the ballot on April 5.
