When Louis Saha jumped for a routine headed in the later stages of Everton ‘s 2-1 home win over Fulham , it was difficult to imagine that it could result in the end of the striker’s season. However, a slight bump to the back of the head and a bad landing later and suddenly Saha is looking at a serious ankle injury that could rule him out until the summer. In an interview with French magazine L’Equipe, the striker said: I’m on crutches, I don’t feel good. I don’t know whether I will have this ankle problem for days, weeks or months. But it’s going to be difficult for me to play again before the end of the season. It’s tiresome to get all these injuries. They all come along just when I’m starting to get a run going. It is hard. It sucks. But I’m trying to think positive. Saha’s ankle complaint is yet another blow to Everton’s attack, who’ve been routinely decimated by injury this season. Only Jermaine Beckford remains fit and ready to play up front for David Moyes’ club, who are currently in eighth place in the Premier League.

Although I’m scribbling this ahead of the vaunted 2011 Major League Soccer (MLS) season’s Kickoff event; which once again will take place in Seattle’s Qwest Field, where the Seattle Sounders FC will be in Quest of the elusive MLS Championship in their third season. Seattle will host the LA Galaxy, (March 15th) which hopefully you watched on ESPN, as I seemingly cannot manage to get a chance to witness David Beckham and Landon Donovan on my Home field pitch… Thus I have NO idea of the match’s outcome, although I’m obviously rooting for the Sounders FC, as hopefully its quartet of Striker’s Fredy Montero, Steve Zakuani, Blaise Nkufo and Alvaro Fernandez have broken their respective Preseason scoring drought (having gone scoreless in nine matches) and found the back of the net. And rumour suggests that perhaps “MAN-U” (Manchester United) may be coming to town as one of the Sounders FC three “Friendly’s” matches this year. Although I’m more intrigued about the resurrection of what Sounders FC minority owner Drew “The Price is Right” Carrey has coined as the Triangle ‘O death… When the long lost NASL Pacific Northwest rivalry between the Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Whitecaps happens this season… Hopefully it’ll go better for Seattle then during the Round-robin matches held on the sounders home pitch of the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, WA – the team’s training facility. Where the Timbers won Two-Nil (2-0) and Vancouver, BC won 3-2 over Sounders FC costly self-inflicted defensive lapses. And for those unaware, Vancouver’s MLS Franchise is co-owned by some Cat named Steve Nash; yeah, as in the NBA’s Phoenix Suns Basketball player…

That didn’t take long. All that had to happen was a UFC pecking order and two fighters from the same camp both at the top of their division. Keith Jardine and Rashad Evans have long been teammates in the same division, but never had to worry about fighting one another (at least post seas on two of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’) because they never occupied the same space in the hierarachy

In the second fight of UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones , New Jersey’s Nick Catone took on last-minute replacement and Matt Serra-student Costantinos Philippou. Catone was originally slated to face Dan Miller , but Miller was promoted to face Nate Marquardt after Yoshihiro Akiyama stayed in Japan due to the tsunami tragedy.

Boston University entered Friday night’s game against Kansas with the knowledge that a 16-seed has never won a game in the NCAA Tournament. In the first half, though, top-seed Kansas had its hands full, and at halftime, the Jayhawks lead the Terriers by only four points.

This was just too good – or BAD, (to pass-up…) depending upon your point of view. Yet, somehow I couldn’t help getting a chuckle out of it and thus felt compelled to scribble about it. Did you hear about the Owl Murderer in Columbia?

Allen Barra in the Village Voice : In 1975, a survey representing America’s biggest rock and roll stations asked several thousand listeners to name the greatest rock and roll record of all time … According to those surveyed, the winner was “Kung Fu Fighting” by the immortal Carl Douglas. What does this have to do with baseball, or for that matter anything except the occasionally bizarre taste of “normal” Americans?

By now I’m sure you’re all aware that the National Football League Owners and Players Association were unable to come to any compromise resolutions over the now expired CBA. (Collective Bargaining Agreement) As just hours prior to the past contract’s deadline, the Players Association De-certified and immediately had a core group of players, most notably Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning file Anti-trust lawsuits against the NFL, while the Owners followed with a Lockout, which some pundits are saying is just the next steps in this cantankerous process towards resolution, as Commissioner Roger Goodell claims steadfastly – there will be a 2011 NFL season… Yet it strikes my funny bone how concurrently the Minnesota Vikings are wrangling for a new replacement stadium as the decrepit Metrodome is obviously in sad shape at the moment, after having its roof collapse last winter. As reportedly this is the final year of the current 29-year lease and proponents see this as the opening to pushing through a deal for a new state-of-the-art replacement.

Justin Duchscherer has had himself a difficult spring. After showing up feeling good, Duchscherer experienced a setback with his hip and had to take a break. He worked his way back to the mound and even appeared in a Grapefruit League game, but just Sunday he was scratched from a scheduled appearance in an intrasquad game because of more hip trouble.
